Marked

Book 1 in the House of Night Series
By P. C. Cast & Kirsten Cast

Marked is about a high school girl named Zoey. She lives in a world exactly like ours except that everyone knows that vampyres are real. Zoey was marked with an outline of a cresent-shaped symbol on her forehead, marking her as a soon-to-be vampyre, or fledgling. She was sent to the House of the Night which is a school where fledglings learn how to be a vampyre and survive the Change, or going from a fledgling to a vampyre. (Your body can eather accept the Change and turn into a vampyre or your body rejects the Change and you die.) Zoey is different though, she was kissed by the goddess of the Night, Nyx and her mark is colored in, like an adult vampyre. Then, Aphrodite, the leader of Dark Daughters and Sons, wants her to join the exclusive club. All the drama begins when Aphodite starts hating Zoey and Zoey figures out she can control the five elements, Wind, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit.
This book is the most dramatic book I have ever read. It also has a sequal, Betrayed.

     I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. * * * * *

The People of Sparks

By Jeanne DePrau

The People of Sparks is is the sequal to the book The City of Ember. The People of Sparks is about a small city called Sparks. In this book, the people of Ember find the city of Sparks and are forced to live there. The council of Sparks dicided they could stay until winter and then they would have to build their own town. There was barely any food for the people of sparks on their own because of the Disaster. The Disaster was when there was four wars and three plagues and most of the world's population died because of it. This left barren cities, empty homes, and people called "roamers". They travel the country going through cities and finding any hidden food or interesting items. Then, they return to their home city and sell them. Lina, a twelve year old girl, sneaks onto a roamer's truck and finds an old city. When she returns, she finds that extreme bickering and shortness of food is causing fighting and talks of war. Now, it is up to her and her friend Doon to stop a war before it starts.

Vampire Kisses 5: The Coffin Club

By Ellen Schreiber

I definatly enjoyed reading this book. It's about a girl named Raven that's extremely Goth and has a vampire boyfriend named Alexander.  Alexander has to go away from his and Raven's city, which they call Dullsville, to return Valentine, a young vampire, to his older brother Jagger.  Jagger, and his twin sister Luna, are enemies of Alexander, but he only took Valentine to them because he was threatening to hurt Raven's younger brother, Billy.  In order to return Valentine, Alexander must travel to Hipsterville.  Raven becomes impatient and follows after him, telling her parents she's going to stay with her aunt.  While there she comes across a club, the Coffin Club.  She thinks it's a club for Goth kids but finds out some of those Goth kids have fangs.
This book is probably my favorite book in the series, but you have to read the first four books first.

This book gets 5 out of 5 stars. * * * * *

P.S. This series also has a 6th book, Royal Blood, of which I sadly can't get my hands on long enough to read.

A Girl Named Disaster

By Nancy Farmer

This book is about a 12-year-girl named Nhamo, which means Disaster in Shone, that lives in a small village in Mozambique, Africa.  She lives there with her grandmother, Aunt Chipo and Uncle Kuva, their children, Masivta and  Ruva, and Aunt Shuvai and her baby.  Her mother was killed by a leopard when she was young and her father left before she was born.
I'm not giving away the important parts, but Nhamo was forced to leave or be married to a man she doesn't know when she is only 12!! Her grandmother told her to take a boat across a huge lake and find her father in Zimbabwe.  Along the way she finds many islands, falls into the water spirits' layer, meets a troup of baboons, and find a kind village of scientists. But her only problem is starvation.

I absolutely give this 4 out of 5 stars. * * * *
